As part of the OSSCOM project that is funded by the EU-Tempus, the German Jordanian University (GJU) along with the Specialized Technical Services (STS) company have organized a training course for the Teaching Assistants in the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology about the use of Cloud computing and OpenStack software. The workshop aims to improve the experience of GJU students and staff in software development and practices by using virtual machines hostess by the GJU cutting-edge, cloud-based technology center to develop software programs and tools. GJU students will start to use the cloud services in several educational labs as part of their training and education.

The GJU cloud-based technology center will also support the establishment of open-source communities in Jordan and assist young entrepreneurs and startups to explore new horizons in the field of software-based businesses and services. The cloud-based technology center will provide seeds for stronger cooperation between Jordanian universities and the industry. Moreover, the technology center will enable GJU students to be equipped with the essential skills in open-source software, which in turn can foster their chances on the job market and enable them to contribute to the diffusion of open-source software in key sectors as an alternative solution to proprietary software.  In fact, a long term objective of the OSSCOM project is to improve the entrepreneurship and ICT innovation capabilities of students.
