Berlin – December 6, 2016
The number of young people who are interested in studying at German universities abroad is increasing steadily. “28.500 foreign students are enrolled for 261 study programs worldwide, in 36 countries and regions," said Dr. Dorothea Rüland, Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), at the conference ‘Transnational Education (TNB) made in Germany - Review and Perspectives’ in Berlin. She referred to numerous crises around the world, on the basis of which some sides expressed doubts about the German dedication. "But is there an alternative to higher education, internationalization and cooperation?" Dr. Rüland asked. "I don’t think so." Especially in difficult times and against the background of so many different standpoints and philosophies, the DAAD is committed to "keep the doors open for cooperation as long as it is possible".
Considering the future of transnational education, Kai Gehring, member of the ‘Bundestag’ (German Federal Parliament), announced: "We have a cross-party consensus in the Bundestag that TNB projects are important." In addition, Professor Natheer Abu-Obeid, President of the German-Jordanian University in Amman, clearly highlighted the special value of transnational educational institutions with the trademark ‘Made in Germany’: “They are centers of enlightenment, which are working as good and reliable as German machines.”
