The student Shaden Musa and her supervisor Dr. Ziad Abuelrub from the Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering Department, School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS) were honored on winning the First Prize in the annual graduation projects competition organized by the Jordan Engineers Association and Amman Chamber of Industry. Her graduation project won the first prize among the projects submitted by the Chemical Engineering Divisions in the Jordanian universities. The project has the title “Preparation and Characterization of Lignin Based Hydrophobic Macroporous Membranes”. The aim of the project was to prepare membranes using synthetic methods of biocompatible polymers from lignin and cellulose acetylation that serves many applications including waste water treatment and water-crude oil separation. The project was done in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Stephan Barbe from Technische Hochschule Köln, Germany.

Dr. Ziad, the supervisor of the project, is the Head of GJU Industrial Relations Committee. He has a distinct experience in the Petroleum industry involving Development Manager, and Regional Manager. He is a Professional Engineer (JPE) in Bioenergy Engineering. His research is focused on bioenergy, shale oil production, and advanced crude oil and gas separation. 

Shaden Musa got her BSc. in Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering from German Jordanian University in August 2016. She did her internship at Dr. Schnell chemie in Munich, Germany. She intends to pursue her MSc next semester in Germany.
