Prof. Andreas Geiger received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his achievements as the German Project Director of the German Jordanian University. The award was handed over by the German Minister of Education and Research, Prof. Johanna Wanka on April 4, 2017.
The award was given to him because of his outstanding commitment and cooperation work between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan, in particular his efforts and support in the establishment and development of the German Jordanian University (GJU).
Professor Geiger was the former rector of the magdeburg stendal university of applied sciences (HS Magdeburg Stendal) between 1998 to 2014. During his time as the director of the GJU-project located at HS Magdeburg Stendal, he traveled approximately 70 times to Jordan acting as the leading partner from the German side in the establishment and development of the German Jordanian University.
The awarding ceremony was attended by the former GJU President Prof. Labib Khadra and the current GJU President Prof. Natheer Abu-Obeid.
