About JACO
Welcome to the Jabal Amman Campus of GJU
Nestled in the center of one of Amman's most historic and inspiring districts, the Jabal Amman Campus of German Jordanian University (GJU) is more than a place to study—it's where ideas take root, communities form, and the past and present are in dynamic conversation.
Our presence in Jabal Amman is part of a bigger story—one of revitalization, respect, and reconnection. GJU has played a vital role in breathing new life into Downtown Amman through hands-on student projects, community partnerships, and cultural initiatives. From restoring historic buildings to collaborating with local artisans and curating public exhibitions, we’ve helped preserve the area’s soul while shaping its future. This is renewal of the city and more—it's a living partnership of the city and the university, of history and innovation.
Our Story
Since 2012, what began as the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) headquarters has become a vibrant, cross-disciplinary center in the heart of Jabal Amman. Incorporated into the district's modern streets, heritage locations, and cultural icons, the campus is a reflection of GJU's abiding commitment to staying rooted in the city's urban fabric—and to delivering learning spaces grounded in the lived, local realities.
It began with Darat Othman Bdeir in 2012—a breathtakingly restored landmark that set a precedent for community-focused, experiential learning. Then, in 2020, the campus grew with Ibrahim Hashem House, further anchoring GJU in the community and opening the door to increased opportunities for students and faculty. Most recently, in 2024, Bait AlSbagh joined the campus, further cementing GJU's commitment to heritage preservation and innovation.
