Prof. Natheer Abu Obied President of German Jordanian University (GJU) Honored Dr. Ziad Abuelrub and student Shaden Musa from the Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering Department, School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS) and Associate Prof. Dr. Raed Mesleh from the Department of Electrical and communication Engineering, for their distinguished achievement in research and projects field.

Vice Dean of the Department of Electrical and communication Engineering Dr. Raed Mesleh received the “Arabic Creativity” award in the “Scientific Creativity” field from the “Arab Thoughts Foundation” in a special ceremony held on 13 December during a special ceremony at “Fikr15” conference. Dr. Raed received the award for inventing a new MIMO wireless communication system called “Quadrature Spatial Modulation”, which enhances the performance of existing wireless system by increasing the data rate and reducing the energy consumption and the cost.

In December, Shaden Musa won the first prize –under the supervision of Dr. Ziad- for her graduation project entitled “Preparation and Characterization of Lignin Based Hydrophobic Macro Porous Membranes” among the projects submitted by the Chemical Engineering Divisions in the Jordanian universities.

 This prize was granted to them during the annual graduation projects competition organized by the Jordan Engineers Association and Amman Chamber of Industry.

It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Ziad is the Head of GJU Industrial Relations Committee. He has a distinct experience in the Petroleum industry involving Development Manager, and Regional Manager. He is a Professional Engineer (JPE) in Bioenergy Engineering, and his research is focused on bioenergy, shale oil production, and advanced crude oil and gas separation. 

Shaden Musa got her BSc. in Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering from GJU in August 2016, she did her internship in Munich, Germany, and currently in Germany to pursue her MSc.

 At the end of the meeting, Dr. Abu Obeid congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue their progress, assuring GJU’s continuous support to all academic staff and students, especially that the university is looking for strengthening the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the students. Consequently, the program of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PIE) was established through the Office of Industrial Links to communicate with industrial sector and open training opportunity for the students.

He also stressed the importance of establishing a club to support innovation and entrepreneurship with the cooperation of Deanship of student affairs.
