Willkommen am German Language Center der GJU!

It is a privilege to be enrolled at GJU. Your degree from a university that excels in applied education, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship; your international study period, your acquired multilingualism as well as your intercultural experience will optimally prepare you to apply for the local as well as the international job market.

In order to prepare for your study period in Germany (the "German Year") and to gain high-quality practical experience in the industrial country of Germany, learning the German language during your studies at the GJU is essential. For this reason, the GJU maintains one of the largest university language centers in the world. In well over 100 courses and with a staff of over 65 German and international lecturers for German-as-a-foreign-language around 2,600 Bachelor students are currently familiarized with the German language daily at the “German Language Centre” (GLC) of GJU.

The compulsory courses for German-as-a-foreign-language are implemented in the first six semesters of the undergraduate degree program in the amount of 760 contact hours. To this end, you complete six German courses at levels A1 to B1 or B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), each lasting one semester.

In addition to German-as-a-foreign-language courses, the courses offered by the GLC also include an intercultural training in preparation for your stay in Germany as well as an job application training to prepare you for your application for an internship during your “German Year”. Specialized languages integrated into the curriculum aim to develop specific subject- and occupational field-oriented competencies that are relevant to your study period and internship in Germany.

Before completing your undergraduate studies, you must demonstrate proficiency in German at a minimum level of B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. An increasing number of students attend the newly installed B2 track at the GJU which brings students to a B2 language level in the same time before they leave for their "German Year", which is a much more profound preparation for the study period and the internship in Germany.

Even though it is not always easy to learn a second foreign language in addition to a demanding study, as a GJU student, you have set yourself this challenging goal. A qualified and dedicated team of German teachers at the German Language Center will be happy to accompany you on this path and wish you every success!
