The Faculty of Energy Engineering at the Aswan University (AU) hosted the Erasmus+ DESIRE project’s semiannual meeting. A workshop within the framework of the meeting was held under the patronage of the AU president Dr. Abdelqader Mohammed Abdelqader. The workshop aimed to spread awareness of the importance of socio-economic impacts of renewable energy implementation and to engage with the local community and the stakeholders.
Dr. Louy Qoaider, an assistant professor at the German Jordanian University and the DESIRE project’s coordinator, elaborated on the connection of renewable energy technology and energy efficiency (RE&EE) with the increase in socio-economic standards of living. Dr. Qoaider discussed the role the DESIRE project plays in the dissemination of study results and in training instructor and students alike in this field based on the results and experience of European Union countries in different aspects of RE&EE.
Experts and scientists from various Middle Eastern and European countries attended the DESIRE project’s workshop. Participants were from the German Jordanian University (GJU), University of Jordan (UJ), Cairo University (CU), University of Cyprus (UC), Sapienza University of Rome (UNIROMA1), Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy (WI), and Technical University of Dresden (TUD). Delegates from different Egyptian universities in addition to local experts in the energy field, members of the energy ministry and the engineers association in the public and private sectors, and local citizens who were interested in RE&EE topic.
The Development of Higher Education Teaching Modules on the Scio-Economic Impacts of renewable Energy Implementation (DESIRE) project was an inception of Erasmus+ at the German Jordanian University and is funded by the European Union.
