Amman- April,2017

The German Jordanian University (GJU) continuously fosters the transfer and exchange of experiences between Jordan and Germany. On the first week of April 2017 GJU Office for Industrial Links (OIL) through its Program Innovation & Entrepreneurship (PIE) invited the Foundation Entrepreneurship Berlin to visit the university and contribute to the entrepreneurship activities and classes at the university during a full week of activities.

Dr. Johanna Richter and Mr. Simon Joachim gave several lectures in social entrepreneurship classes in the frame of GJU’s flying faculty program in which they introduced several concepts of the foundations approach in supporting entrepreneurs and pitching the ideas for the investors and the community.

On Monday 3rd of April, both did a workshop about the book “Brains versus Capital” at Umniah Innovation Space, The Tank, in the King Hussein Business Park. Brains versus Capital is a manifesto for people’s entrepreneurship, but also a how-to guide on getting started. It is the story of a “radical idealist of capitalism” who shows you how to make money, but who also tells you how to have fun and how to make the world a better place. The author of the book founded the Foundation Entrepreneurship in 2001 to support and encourage entrepreneurs to raise their own businesses. The Foundation donated (100) copies to the university to be offered in the GJU Innovation Space and PIE activities. Furthermore, they provide the so called “Entrepreneurship Campus” on the internet, where people can find dates for the Foundation’s events, information about competitions, and inspiring videos from Entrepreneurs out of all areas of society.

During the presence of two members of the Foundation Entrepreneurship, there were vivid discussions and exchange about PIE’s current activities, the improvement of this program and collaboration opportunities between Jordan and Germany, especially since the entrepreneurship ecosystem of Berlin is similar to the ecosystem of Amman.

On top of that, the visitors met the Vice-President for International Affairs, Prof. Dorit Schumann, to discuss the university’s activities in the field of entrepreneurship.

The week was planned and supported by the Program Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Office for Industrial Links.
