On Monday 14th of May 2018, the Attaché/Programme Manager Education and Youth of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Mr. Job Arts, and EDU-SYRIA project manager Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair visited Yarmouk University (YU) and Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in Irbid to meet the programmes’ students and discuss further cooperation with partner  universities.

EDU-JORDAN is funded by the European Union and offers 300 Master’s degree scholarships for vulnerable Jordanians at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Yarmouk University, Mutah University and the German Jordanian University. Currently the programme provided 97 scholarships in YU and 106 in JUST to pursue Master’s degree in various majors.

The visit started in Yarmouk University, where the delegation met with the university president, Prof. Zeidan Kafafi and discussed the programme importance in supporting vulnerable Jordanians. Prof. Kfafi said that YU will support EDU-JORDAN students by organizing soft skills workshops and courses to prepare them for the job market.

The visit continued to JUST; where the delegation met with university president Prof. Saeb Khreisat. Khreisat assured that JUST will continue to support EDU-JORDAN and is willing to discuss future cooperation, and to host the EDU-JORDAN exhibition next month in the World Refugee Day.

Mr. Job Arts thanked both universities for their efforts in supporting the programme and stressed that the scholarships offered to vulnerable Jordanian students is part of the European Union commitment to help the host communities.

During the visits, the delegation met with the Programmes’ students and listened to their concerns, questions and suggestions.

 

About EDU-JORDAN Project:

EDU-JORDAN is part of EDU-SYRIA which is a framework to help Syrian refugees in Jordan and vulnerable Jordanians from the refugees host communities to get access to higher education through a set of scholarship programs. The project consists of two phases: EDU-SYRIA I and EDU-SYRIA II that gives the students the opportunity to pursue an academic or professional educational degree.

The programme is funded by the European Union and managed by the German-Jordanian University (GJU). The programme works in cooperation with the National Aid Fund (NAF), Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA), and Al-Aman Fund.
