The Deanship of Students Affairs at GJU has organized the first GJU Model United Nations Conference in the presence of the University’s President Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, the Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Anton Mangstl and the Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Yousef Abdallat on Friday, April 3rd  ,2015.    

 

The aim of the Conference (GJU-MUN), which was organized by the United Nations Model Student Club at the university is to build an understanding of global challenges amongst young people that crosses borders of background, culture and nationality. Using both the knowledge, experiences and the relationships they form through MUN, it is hoped that the next generation of world leaders and thinkers will be able to work effectively to find solutions to future global problems that are compatible with the aims and principles of the United Nations and promote the spirit of cooperation.   

 

The President Prof. Abu Obeid, pointed out to the importance of the MUN conference in strengthening the Knowledge of Global Politics which is also important for students to be a future leaders and thinkers. It would give the students the ability to form relationships rapidly with people of alternative backgrounds and viewpoints and respect them.

 

“GJU is not only a plat form for education, but it is a center of enlightenment, it is our gate to Germany and Europe, and hopefully to the rest of the world” Abu Obeid said.   

 

The students Osama Mahmood, President of the Security Council, and Husam Khraisat, President of MUN Council, gave speech where both stressed on the achievements of the MUN in past years, and the new issues that the council will tackle.   

 

The conference tackled several issues; Houthi insurgency in Yemen, Capital Punishment and Prisoners’ rights , Women’s Economic Empowerment and Workplace Gender Gaps, the political, military, and humanitarian situation of ISIS ,the use of Drones “UAVs” in warfare, the Ukraine-Russian conflict and the Syrian Crisis.  

 

It was very effective participation of many Jordanian universities and schools, like  Tafila Technical University , Applied Science University , the University of Jordan ,Princess Sumaya University for Technology , Jordan University of Science and Technology ,Al-Hussein Bin Talal University , American University of Madaba , Al-Asyriyya School , Islamic Scientific  College Schools , the Baptist School , National Orthodox School , Rosary College School , Model American School , Glasgo University Britain and Wellesley College.
