The German Bundestag Visits GJU

On Wednesday, 5 April 2017, Member of the German Bundestag Spokesman on Higher Education, Science and Research Mr. Kai Gehring, visited the German Jordanian University in order to present the “International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag” IPS.

The program is designed to provide insights into the German parliamentary process in order to foster international understanding and promote peace and cooperation.

The German Bundestag offers a scholarship program for politically interested young Arab graduates who are keen to learn more about the German parliamentary system and want to play an active role in promoting core democratic values in their home countries.

This four-week program will take place in September 2017 in Berlin and other selected locations in Germany. The program’s core element is a week-long work placement in the office of a Member of the German Bundestag. It also focuses on information regarding the German parliamentary system, along with lectures, workshops and seminars on German history and culture, religious freedom, minority issues and dealing with experiences of dictatorships (the Nazi dictatorship and SED dictatorship).

At the end of the meeting which was attended by Vice President for International Affairs Dr. Dorit Schumann and Mr. Jaime Sperberg, the Cultural Attache’ of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany a general discussion was conducted answering the student’s questions.
