On Wednesday 12th of October 2017, a German delegation from The Federal State North-Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), visited the German Jordanian University (GJU), in order to discuss cooperation and work with GJU during their visit to Jordan.

The president of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad, gave an introduction about GJU, clarifying that it’s based on the applied science model, similar to German universities to equip graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge for national and international markets.

Fayyad explained that students at GJU have the opportunity to travel one year to Germany as a requirement for graduation, where they study for one semester in one of GJU’s partners in Germany and for the second semester students seek an internship in one of German companies based on their specialization.

Government Director Mr. Wael El-Gayar from the State Chancellery NRW, discussed their interest in tightening and strengthening the relations with Jordan in general and with GJU.

El-Gayar and the accompanying delegation, discussed areas of collaboration such as creating an exchange program for the students not only to focus on the academic side, but to learn and benefit from the intercultural communication and to abandon the misconceptions regarding different cultures.

They also offered funding opportunities to future projects regardless the specialization, besides the possibility of joint PhD supervision between the NRW Graduate School and GJU.

The delegation that consists of: Prof. Thomas Grumke, Prof. Sabine Mecking, Police director Detlev Gröner from the FH for public. Administration NRW, Dr. Ekkehard Rudolph from the Landeskriminalamt NRW, Martin Wentorf of the Ministry of Interior of NRW and Government Director Wael El-Gayar from the state Chancellery NRW, the authority of the Prime Minister, took a tour in the campus, where they were introduced to the universities’ facilities and labs.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Adnan Al-Lahham Dean of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Maram Taweel Vice Dean of School of Architecture and Built Environment, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli Dean of School of Applied Technical Sciences, Dr. Nidal Shwawreh Vice Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Dorothea Jecht Director of German Language Center, Ms. Britta Kaehler, Director of Office for Industrial Links, Mr. Jens Hegemann Director of International Office, Ms. Jacqueline Rogler Deputy Director of International Office.
