The School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) / Department of Social Work at the German Jordanian University (GJU) held the second International Conference on Localisation of Social Work in Arab Countries (LOSWAC) on September 18-19, 2019.
The Vice-President for International Affairs Prof. Ralph Rosskopf, the head of Social Work Department Prof. Dr. Christine Huth-Hildebrandt, have welcomed the participants and guests; providing an overview about the German Jordanian University in term of its specializations and project collaborations between Jordan and Germany.
The two-day international conference was organised within the frame of the German Academic Exchange Service’s (DAAD) funding project “DAAD Transformation Partnership Program 2019-2020”, the entitled project “Localisation of Social Work in Arab Countries (LOSWAC)”, which is implemented within an existing cooperation relations between four universities; the German Jordanian University (Jordan), Yarmouk University (Jordan), the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (Germany) and the Lebanese University (Lebanon). The project has started in March 1st, 2019 and will continue until December 31st, 2020.
The conference focused on the Demands and Approaches of Localisation of Social Work in Arab Countries. It tackled the required localisation measures in four main sessions; Professionalization of Social Work in the Arab Context, Funding for Social Work: for an efficient local implementation, Community Engagement and Social Work of Higher Education. The Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation as well as 29 academics, researcher, expertise and practitioners in the field of social work participated and presented studies addressing the challenges in the Arab region. The conference focused on the requirements, needs and approaches of institutionalizing social work in the Arab countries in accordance with the needs in the local market.
This conference was the second one from three implemented conferences in the project. The first one was conducted in Germany in July 2019 "localization of Social work in Arab countries (LOSWAC) and their basics", and the third one will be in 2020 in Lebanon " Localization of Social Work in Arab Countries: Results".
