On Saturday 9th of December 2017, The Office of the Advisor to the President for Local Community Affairs at the German-Jordanian University (GJU), in cooperation with Basha’er Al Nour “association in Madaba, celebrated the World Handicapped Day, which falls in December 3 of each year.

Vice President of GJU Dr. Atif Al-Kharabsheh said on behalf of the President Prof. Manar Fayyad, that the university is pleased to participate in the occasion to provide support and raise awareness to handicaps’ needs and rights.

Al-Kharabsheh pointed to the importance of treating persons with disability and special needs as equals to their peers so that they will have positive productive energy in the society, noting that GJU has paid special attention to this group for years through the Visual Training Center (VTC) where they dedicate their work and services to people with visual disabilities to give them hope, improve their vision and integrate them in the community.

From his side, Director of the Directorate of Social Development in Madaba, Mr. Omar Rabta said that the celebration of this occasion contributes in achieving the ultimate goal in guaranteeing handicaps their human rights and community participation.

Director of the Association Ms. Siham Taa’mari said that the rehabilitation programs of the association work primarily to integrate people with intellectual disabilities (Down syndrome) in the community.

She mentioned some of the association’s achievements and projects such as the handicrafts station and mosaic training that qualify them to work in the local market.
