On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities,  the Office of Advisor to the President for Local Community Affairs at German Jordanian University in cooperation with “ Basha’er Al Nour “ organization for persons with disabilities organized an event to celebrate this occasion.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is   an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It has been celebrated with varying degrees of success around the planet.  It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. It was originally called "International Day of Disabled Persons" until 2007. Each year the day focuses on a different issue.

Professor Manar Fayyad, the GJU Vice president  who patronized  the event on behalf of the President Professor Natheer Abu Obeid , pointed out to the Hashemite's leadership eagerness to enhance and protect the rights of persons with disabilities, and that GJU will support these persons who  have  the right to recognition everywhere, and  will raise awareness on their legal capacity on an equal basis with others in all aspects of life.

She extended her gratitude to “ Basha’er Al Nour “ organization represented by its Director Ms. Siham Taa’mari and the Office of Advisor to the President for Local Community Affairs at GJU for their efforts.

For her part Ms. Siham Taa’mari said that this organization for Persons with Disabilities is representing a voice of their own, identifying their needs, expressing their feelings , evaluating services and advocating change and public awareness.

She further added that these kids with disabilities especially the kids with Down syndrome are smart, full of positive energy, creative and so eager to be part of their societies. She finally thanked GJU for its support and participation.

At the end of the event, Professor Fayyad distributed gifts to the kids.

It is worthy to mention that these kids and through their singing performance on the stage during the event would say to the society that they are  human beings, they are interested in the same things as everyone else ask their favorite sport, or activity , they have their own rights like others, they work and can do things that could make the whole society proud of.
