The German-Jordanian University (GJU) faculty member Dr. Ala’ Khalifeh from the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT) will start his voluntary service for two years as the chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – Jordan section.

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

The IEEE members in Jordan elected Dr. Khalifeh after he served several positions in the IEEE Executive committee over the last 6 years, as he was the IEEE Communication Society chair for around 4 years and the IEEE secretary activities for 2 years.

IEEE Jordan section is a large section with more than 1600 members. Dr. Khalifeh is planning toward increasing the number of members by at least 10%, and adding new technical and social activities that target students, faculty members and industrial partners.

Further, Dr. Khalifeh is keen of engaging GJU faculty members, administrative staff and students in co-organizing professional and technical activities, and engage them in voluntary work and services such as conference, workshop organization, technical talks, arranging competitions, implementing societal and technical projects that can assist the vulnerable societies and under-served areas in Jordan.

These activities will cultivate the organizers volunteering culture, which in turn will form a unique collaborative model between academia, industry, and a professional society like the IEEE.

GJU family congratulates Dr. Ala’ Khalifeh for this achievement and wishes him all the best.
