To promote innovation GJU , on the 22nd of January 2020,the President of the German Jordanian University (GJU), Prof. Manar Fayyad issued the decision to form the innovation, technology transfer and intellectual property office under the umbrella of the Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR), with Dr. Omar Hiari appointed as Director.
The primary responsibilities of the office will lie mainly in defining instructions and creating a process for intellectual property protection requests. The office will also be responsible for accepting and studying all intellectual property requests and deciding on the best path forward to secure intellectual property rights.
    
Overall, the essential mission of the office will be to promote innovation and to invest in and protect ideas formed at GJU. The office's goal is to evaluate, protect, and license ideas formed at GJU while building relationships with parties interested in licensing GJU protected ideas. The office also aims to spread awareness on innovation and intellectual property in GJU to help protect the rights of all inventors.
    
In his first statement, Dr. Hiari mentioned, "The idea is that this office would provide a long-needed platform for inventors at GJU, both professors and students, to protect their ideas." He also added that "GJU has long been known as a source of quality research and researchers, so it would only make sense that a platform like this is provided to help GJU researchers protect their ideas and potentially commercialize them."
