The Department of Social Work at the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) in cooperation with GJU's Consultation and Training Center (CTC) graduated its ninth batch of the Professional Training Certificate in Social Work: Refugees and Migrants, which has been established since 2016 and has graduated 210 students until now.

The program gained international recognition and is well known for its unique diversity of students that expands students' perspectives and horizons. This semester due to the pandemic, the program took place virtually and consisted mostly of international students.

Students had the chance to expand their knowledge in the field of mental health and psychosocial support to refugees, administration and coordination of humanitarian systems and sustainable transition building, social work with minors and women in country of origin or transit, research with refugees and field internship.

The program organized this semester a Cultural Intelligence workshop to help increase the cultural intelligence of students who will be working in multi-cultural environments within the field of humanitarian and social work.

The graduation ceremony took place as a virtual meeting with the students attended by Prof. Dr. Ralf Rosskopf, Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Salah Alsalman, Dean of SAHL, Prof. Dr. Christine Hildebrandt, Head of Social Work Department, Prof. Gourbin from the NOHA Center for Research in Demography and Societies, along with the academic and administrative staff of the program.

Prof. Rosskopf praised the commitment and efforts of the academic staff and students and the success of the online teaching method, which had to be adapted in order to keep the continuation of the program and to give the chance to national and international students to proceed with their education despite all the challenges the world is facing.  On the other hand, Prof. Hildebrandt acknowledged the enormous efforts by keeping the characteristics of the program where a number of guest speakers attend the lectures virtually and provided the students with factual experience and case studies. At the end of the graduation, the students Raghida Al-Sanjlawi, and Lara Ehrenzeller presented a word on behalf of the students, where they expressed the students' gratitude on this fruitful experience and acquired knowledge.

This program is offered twice a year along with each academic year. The training certificate aims at providing practical knowledge in a limited and manageable period. The certificate is tailored to target not only social work practitioners but also professionals from other disciplines as well as new graduates. The courses provide a comprehensive understanding of the human needs of displaced person needs and their perspectives shape the program to better equip professionals who work with them.
