On Wednesday, October 2, 2019, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the German Jordanian University (GJU),  the Minister of Culture and Youth, Dr. Mohammed Abu Rumman, on behalf of the Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al- Razzaz,  inaugurated the 18th Conference of Jordanian Librarians under the title "The Changing Role of Public Libraries: Challenges of the Present and Future Visions".

The Jordanian Library and Information Association organized the conference on the occasion of the declaration of cultural brigades (Dhiban, Kunfranjah and, Bisaira 2019).

In his speech, Vice President of GJU Prof. Atef Kharabsheh welcomed the participants where he appreciated the efforts to maintain and upgrade the libraries' roles today.

He assured the University's role in supporting and serving science and society at all levels. He cleared that GJU bridges the collaboration with different sectors and subjects.

On another hand, Dr. Omar Jaradat, the President of Jordan Library and Information Society, explained that the selection of the conference title was to shed the light on the library's audience and the challenges towards this segment. He also thanked the participants from Jordan, Palestine, Algeria, and Iraq.

The conference covered several topics over two days, such as The Changing Role in Disseminating the Cultural Awareness of the National Library Department, Public libraries and community, Public Libraries and Sustainable Development, and Public Libraries in Jordan.
