Successful inclusion of persons who have their vision impaired requires taking into account a number of factors, many of which are culturally specific. However, schools for children with visual impairment in the region make little or no allowances for extra-curricular training on daily life skills.

Since the 17th of April, the GJU Vision Training Center (VTC) is hosting the second of a series of four training courses for trainers from Afghanistan, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine (West Bank and Gaza) and Tajikistan. In addition to the cultural diversity, more than half of the participants are themselves visually impaired (7 of 13). Last week, the training was provided by experts from Royal Dutch Visio (Netherlands), while this week it is offered by the low vision specialists from the VTC. The project includes a third partner, CBM International (Germany based NGO).

The participants will come back in the fall for the third course. Until then, they will carry on practical assignments in their own country allowing them put their new skills and knowledge into use for the benefit of the children with visual impairment and their families.
