For the first time, the German Jordanian University participated at the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Waste and Raw Materials Management (IFAT) that was held from May 30 to June 3 2016 in Munich, Germany.

A team of GJU participated in the Joint Stand “Research & Education” to present the EU funded project “BioREEED: Biogas Production in Local Communities in Jordan” (EuropeAid/136101/ID/ACT/JO, Contracting Authority: Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jordan, http://www.biogas-in-jordan.org). The team was comprised of the project coordinators Dr. Christina B. Class and Dr. Mohammad Al-Addous together with Dr. Hussein Al-Taani, Dr. Mohammad Alnaief and Eng. Duaa Al-Lahseh.

German Jordanian University is the coordinator of the project with the Institute of Environmental Technology and Energy Economics from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany, as experienced project partner. In the context of the project, a Biogas Lab has been installed in the premises of German Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan and will be officially opened in summer 2016.

GJU was one among 3,097 exhibitors from 59 countries to participate in IFAT 2016 (http://www.ifat.de/index-2.html#) which had approximately 138,000 visitors from over 170 nations. The Jordanian exhibitors at IFAT besides GJU were Aqaba Water Company, ACWUA, WAKILEH contracting and the German-Jordanian Water Portfolio (GIZ).

During the fair, representatives of GJU participated in podium discussions as well as presentations and met with representatives of numerous companies, universities, NGOs and international organizations to discuss different topics related to biogas, waste management and other topics.

After an intensive week, GJU’s team draw a very positive conclusion of its IFAT participation as interest was generated in the German Jordanian University and specifically in the BioREEED project. Moreover, light was shed on Jordan’s activities in the fields of renewable energy and water supplies as an important player in the region and potential market for new technological developments.
