On December 12th 2018, Dr. Oliver Ritter and Ms. Raghad Al Hadid from the School of Applied Humanities and Languages participated at the translation conference “Translation: A Vision for the Future” at Yarmouk university, which was organized by the Jordanian Translators’ Association. It highlighted the importance of the role of translation in serving the countries and building their identity, stressing that academia is no longer theoretical, but it has become applied science in all science and humanity fields.

The conference program included five workshop sessions with the participation of 25 researchers from different universities; Jordan, Science and Technology, Zaitouna, Jadara, Petra, German Jordanian and Yarmouk, as well as Al Saud University and the French Embassy in Amman, and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. The opening ceremony was attended by the Director of the DAAD Office in Jordan Gabriela Fircks, the Chancellor of the University Dr. Abdul Halim Al-Shiab, a number of deans and officials at the university, academic staff, and students.

Dr. Oliver Ritter and Ms. Raghad Al Hadid both presented and talked about the GJU translation department experience.The conference discussed topics about the need for translation theories, translators training in translation and interpretation, translators and labor market requirements, stylistic and literary translation, machine translation, linguistic terminology and professional translation and translation to promote the sharing of academic and market aspects, by exchanging knowledge and experience between participants of specialists and practitioners.
