- Granting the Honorary Doctorate in Humanities to Mrs.Edelgard Bulmahn -
Under the patronage of Her Excellency Mrs. Edelgard Bulmahn, The Vice-President of the German Bundestag, the German Jordanian University (GJU) celebrated the graduation of its seventh group of graduates at the Palace of Culture - Al-Hussain Youth City on Saturday, 27 August 2016.
During the ceremony and for the first time the German Jordanian University since its establishment granted the Honorary Doctorate in Humanities to Mrs.Edelgard Bulmahn as a way of honoring her distinguished contributions to GJU and her eagerness to support it in all fields in order to maintain this success.
Mrs. Bulmahn expressed happiness of participating GJU this special event, and pride of being awarded with such a distinguished title by the GJU.
On the other hand, she said that her wishes upon this university have become true that it should reuniting together science and application, and be at the pulse of the economic development of both Jordan and Germany, and deliberately bring students together with experts in the field of practice.
She further praised this model of applied sciences university and how it offers young students not only excellent study opportunities but also the chance to study and work in Germany and to experience intercultural cooperation in a stimulating environment.
Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, President of GJU asserted that the university is truly honored by the patronage of her Excellency, Mrs. Bulmahn, and expressed his sincere thanks to H.E and to Bundestag for their support.
Prof. Abu Obeid mentioned that GJU was able to become a success story in the Higher Education not only in Jordan, but in the whole region through the efforts and hard work that have been done by both Jordanians and Germans side by side.
The President also pointed out that the GJU forms a case of enlightenment in higher education and cultural communication and this enables it to be an important cultural gateway for Jordan to Germany and the developed world.
For his part, Dr. Andreas Geiger (Project Director) emphasized that he had the privilege of contributing his share from the very beginning , through which he also had the chance of getting to know the most wonderful people and of establishing new and lasting friendships. He also emphasized that GJU has always been an excellent example of the best education to be offered and has been an indispensable resource for a more peaceful living together of peoples and nations.
He also warmly thanked Mrs. Bulmahn for her support and contributions and congratulated her on being awarded an honorary doctorate of GJU.
Some of graduates gave speeches in the Arabic, English and German languages. They all thanked their families, teachers, and their beloved GJU as well for the excellent education, experiences and friendship they earned.
At the end of the Ceremony that was attended by H.E Dr. Khalerd Toukan, H.E Prof. Labib Alkhadra , H.E Eng. Othman Bedeir, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and the members of Board of Trustees, Ms. Bulmahn along with Prof. Abu Obeid distributed certificates to the graduates in recognition of their outstanding academic performances.
