On Wednesday 24th of October 2018, a delegation from Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers visited the German Jordanian University (GJU), to learn more about the university and explore potential scientific collaboration.

Vice Presidents of GJU Dr. Dorit Schumann and Dr. Atef Kharabsheh welcomed the delegation in the presence of faculty members from most schools and the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research (GSSR).

Dr. Schumann explained that GJU was founded in 2005 by a Royal Decree, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding reached between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany. In August 2004, a founding committee began up its activities in Jordan.

She also presented the most important achievements and activities at GJU through its schools, centers, and GSSR stressing that GJU does not just carry an educational aspect but also an intercultural one through the German Year where students have to travel for one year to Germany, the incoming students' program and the flying faculty program.

Dr. Atef introduced the higher education system in Jordan. He pointed out the quality of education that GJU provides to its graduates, where the focus includes the startup and entrepreneur side, the German language, the practical and soft skills.

The President of the Helmholtz Association Prof. Otmar Wiestler conducted a presentation where he explained the Association’s mission and strategy, the research fields, some facts, and Helmholtz centers.

He clarified the Association’s strategic partnership and internationalization strategy, mentioning that the Association constantly looks for new partners, cooperation and joint ventures.

The delegation that consisted of forty members engaged with GJU’s academic staff and alumni in a discussion to gain more knowledge about each other. In the end, the delegation toured the campus.
