The German Jordanian University (GJU) and Goethe Institute- Jordan inaugurated the German Lounge / Dialogpunkt at Jabal Amman campus within the German Weeks activities that aim to strengthen the German dimension through a set of activities and events that targets GJU staff/faculty members, GJU students, and other interested participants from German and other Jordanian universities.

The German Ambassador in Amman, Mr. Bernhard Kampmann, indicated that the German Jordanian University represents the hard work and bilateral collaboration between Jordan and Germany, appreciating the efforts of the GJU presidency to improve and encourage the German dimension at its premises and the joint actions with Goethe Institute to achieve this space, especially after the challenges resulting from the pandemic.

The President of GJU, Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, explained that GJU’s strategy is built according to the German standards that aims to gather and connect academics, researchers, industrial partners and stakeholders from all around the world without any reservations or barriers.

Dr. Al-Halhouli explained that the German Lounge/Dialogpunkt is a culmination of years of collaborative work between the Goethe Institute and GJU to produce and enable a dialogue between Jordan and Germany for the students and the community and to bring in an interactive, creative space for education and intercultural exchange, also to provide an open and complementary hub for the activities of both institutions, as well as German and Jordanian partners.

Dr. Al-Halhouli added that at GJU, networking and connecting people is essential, in addition, to serving students, colleagues, and communities by equipping them with the skills of international competitiveness in the age of globalization.

Furthermore, the Director of the Goethe Institute- Jordan, Laura Hartz, expressed her happiness to witness the creation of an educational, dialogue, and cultural space in Jabal Amman to be an innovative addition to Amman’s cultural scene.

It is worth mentioning that the German Lounge intends to hold various events and activities in collaboration with local artists and institutes and aims to bring together the students and the public with the art and design scene in Amman. It is meant, also to become a platform for Jordanian and German partners’ activities, facilitate an exchange between both countries, and address topics of common interest and designed to invite young people to get to know Germany, its language, and its culture by providing free access to information, educational and cultural activities as well as informal exchange.

The ceremony was attended by the GJU Board of Trustees Chairman, Eng. Othman Bedier, representatives of some foreign embassies, presidents of German universities and organizations in Jordan.
