Under the patronage of H.E Eng. Othman Bdeir, the Chairman of Board of Trustees, School of Architecture and Built Environment SABE at German Jordanian University launched the Master Program in Architectural Conservation in the attendance of the GJU President, GJU academic members in addition to an honorable guests and partners from Germany.

The program was established in cooperation with the department of Historic Building Research and Conservation from the RWTH Aachen University and the department of Historic Building Research and Conservation at TU-Berlin with the German Jordanian University.

The aim of this cooperation is to revive the master program “Architectural Conservation”, originally programmed by GJU by sponsoring 30 Jordanian and refugee students with a full scholarship.

H.E Eng. Othman Bdeir expressed his pleasure to patronage this ceremony of launching a very impressive program, saying that Jordan is full of a significant architectural and archaeological sites and this program will help to discover the other sites of Jordan and the entire area , and hoped that this area could go back to what was it is before without wars and conflicts.

Professor Natheer Abu Obeid , the GJU President   warmly welcomed all the  guests and partners  from Germany and extended a special thanks to H.E Eng. Othman Bdeir for his contentious support for the university .

He further emphasized that GJU through this program is not only managing the education for the Jordanian the Syrian students but also it contributes to prepare young professionals especially the Syrian refugees, so they can go back to their home country and rebuilt all the heritage sites that have been destroyed by the forces of darkness.

Finally, he wished the cooperation to be a flourishing and successful.

For his part , Dr. Ziyad Haddad , Dean of School of Architecture and Built Environment stressed the importance of this kind  of program that is designed to prepare well qualified specialists who will be able to fulfill such a missing function. He also thanked all the partners who work hard to establish this joint program.  

Dr. Rami Daher , Associate Professor at SABE  delivered an introduction about the program, its aims and objectives ,  and the significant features of the program , since its concentrating on the link between  theory and academia on one hand and practice on the other.

The launch ceremony included several presentations and participation by  Prof. Christian Raabi from RWTH Aachen University, department of Historic Building Research and Conservation who gave a presentation about the beginning of project and the first cooperation between DAI “ German Archaeological institute “ and AA” Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, in addition to Dr. Mohammad Yaghan the former dean of SABE who had the chance to speak about the SABE establishment and its first steps by moving the whole school to the downtown Amman,  reviving that area and creating an economic development pole.   

The project is an initiative by the “Archaeological Heritage Network “ and under the directorship of the DAI “ German Archaeological institute “in cooperation with DAAD , German Exchange Service”.
