On Tuesday 23rd of May 2017, the Minister of Youth, Engineer Haditha AlKhraishah presented a lecture on Decentralized Elections Law at GJU in order to educate and raise awareness on the subject among the students.

The Minister explained, with the presence of the President of GJU Prof. Natheer Abu Obied, that this law will consist of a municipal council to empower every Governorate to be independent in taking the best decisions to their area since they are the best to know the individuality and needs of their community.

He explained the advantages of this system in strengthen the citizens’ feelings with responsibility and being a decision maker, clarifying that it’s also a woman and youth friendly because it encourages women to be politically and socially active by determining a ratio of 20% for them in the council, while youth from age 25 can run in the elections.

He urged the students to be part of the process, and take an active and positive role in the election by viewing and discussing the candidates’ programs, indicating the tremendous responsibility in choosing a qualified person to represent them.

From his side Abu Obied stressed the importance of voting as a right to the students and as a part of good citizenship toward our country.

At the end of the visit, an open session was conducted where the Minister answered all the students’ questions.
