Amman- 7 October 2019

On 23rd and 24th of September 2019 the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Dresden hosted the GJU Network Meeting on Applied Medical Sciences represented by the Dean of the School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Lahham (Biomedical Engineering) and the Exchange Coordinator Prof. Dr. Samer Gharabli (Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering).

Participants from seven German partner universities, such as Hochschule Anhalt, Beuth Hochschule Berlin, Hochschule Furtwangen, Technische Hochschule Lübeck, Hochschule Offenburg, Hochschule Sigmaringen and Hochschule Zwickau joined the meeting.

One of this year’s agenda topics was plagiarism and the need for further training in scientific writing for students as “copy-paste” became a habit with GJU students mostly due to the lack of citation skills. SAMS therefore plans to offer a compulsory course for first semester students because good scientific practice is a prerequisite for sound science and research in their future career.

Furthermore, a handbook for technical language will be developed by Prof. Dr. Samer Gharabli in cooperation with GLC and German partner universities in order to give SAMS students a reference book for technical vocabulary in Applied Medical Science. On the other hand attending free German language courses at the German partner university might become a certified course and also prerequisite for the internship at a German enterprise.

The professors Dr. Samer and Dr. Adnan also discussed accreditation and new Master programs, even Dual study programs could become a way of collaborating with more than 100 hospitals in Jordan. The School of Applied Medical Science is ambitious in educating its students with additional support on professorial level to offer further study courses and applied training.
