The cooperation project »Discovering cities« is a 3-year intercultural dialogue project funded by the DAAD between Bauhaus University of Weimar represented by Prof. Frank Eckardt and the German Jordanian University (GJU) represented by Dr. Maram Tawil- the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), as well as a network of universities in the Middle East; the Notre Dame University-Louaize in Beirut represented by Dr. Christine Mady and Dr. Nadine Hindi and Cairo University represented by Dr. Alia Sadaty and Dr. Tamer.

The project was concluded in December 2020 with a final module International PhD workshop titled (Discovering Future Cities Project) that was virtually conducted on the 2nd- 3rd of December 2020.

Four keynote speakers participated in the online workshop:  Dr. Sami Sabri Shaker, Dr. Dominika Blachnicka-Ciacek, Dr. Rami Daher and Dr. Marie El Haddad who added fruitful inputs and constructive feedback to the presenters. Colleagues form the partner universities have attended the sessions.

The workshop touched base with several themes that were basis for the project’s academic and research activities throughout its past three years. These themes were summarized in four sessions of the workshop: Heritage, social Issues, Neo-liberal Development and Public spaces and Waterfronts. Each of which included several presentations from participants and a discussion of the main ideas of each thematic.

The project will be further concluded with a publication that illustrates the different modules and discusses different planning situations of Arab Cities.
