On Wednesday 22nd of November 2017, Under the Patronage of Her Excellency Brigitta Maria Siefker the Ambassador of German Embassy in Amman, with the cooperation of TU Dortmund University and the support of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD); the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE)  organized the Second International Conference “Reclaiming Public Spaces Within Metropolitan Areas” at German Jordanian University (GJU).

The President of GJU, Prof. Manar Fayyad said that this event offers a platform of inputs of different scholars from almost 12 countries, to describe their various case studies and research on public space, the role of public space in the different regions and cities and the socio-cultural and economic aspects of city developments, as well as the nature-based planning approaches.

Director of DAAD Jordan, Gabriele Von Fircks gave an introduction about the institution highlighting the most important services and programs they fund.

She clarified that this conference comes within the Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World program that aims to strengthen the ties between higher education institutions in Germany and Islamic countries and the fostering of subject-specific and cultural dialogue between students and young academics from Germany and partner countries.

From his side the Dean of (SABE), Dr. Ziad Haddad identified the importance of the topic, hoping to start a new phase by sharing the knowledge for a better development of our cities.

The Vice Dean of SABE Dr. Maram Al-Taweel said that the conference includes three main subjects: Urban Transformation & the Role of Public, Social and Culture and Nature-Based.

She also mentioned that it will showcase the products of the project in form of student’s work, research projects and knowledge exchange that occurred among the German Jordanian counterparts.

Its worthy to mention that the conference that lasted for three days was attended by the chairman and members of GJU Board of Trustees with the contribution of 170 participants from 12 Arabic and foreign countries.
