On Tuesday, 9th of November 2021, The School of Management and Logistics Sciences (SMLS) at the German Jordanian University (GJU) organized an academic field trip to two warehouses, namely; Matrix and Darb. The group of logistics students were led by Eng.  Ahmad AlHanakteh, Dr. Ismail AbuShaika, and Dr. Luay Juma.

Matrix is a 3rd party logistics company and a multi-client warehouse that provides storage, transportation, in-house services customized for each client needs and it streamlines the logistics function using technology for greater visibility and impose operational discipline across the supply chain, the warehouse has systems that we had covered in our studies, such as Put-away, Adjustable beams and Single Deep APR and they also hope to convert the aisle racking system to a narrow aisle soon. Matrix clients list consists of 130 clients, the list has big names such as Tkiyet Um Ali, Nestlé, Almarai and Starbuck.

Darb for trading & refrigeration  is a 3rd party logistics company and multi-client warehouse under Al-Jabali Group, its operation consists of dry storage, Chilled, frozen storage, and exportation of goods, as it has a bonded section for non-custom paid products. The warehouse has shuttle systems for specific clients, this warehouse consists of 101 rooms and it has the capacity to hold 42,000 pallets, they have a warehouse management system that decides how and where to store products as each product needs to be held in a specific storage conditions and temperature-controlled as low as -18 degrees.

Thank you to Matrix and Darb logistics team for this amazing tour, which enabled the logistics students to observe the physical operations of the warehouses and have concreted the information that students studied in a way that facilitates the reflection between theory and practice.
