On September 10, 2020, GJU completed the second practical phase of its Dual studies. This year five different groups of students have taken part in the practical training at the different Dual Studies partner companies:

Two groups of second year students one from Logistics, one from Computer Science and three groups of first year students from the Logistics and Computer Science majors as well as from Industrial Engineering.

GJU Dual Studies team visited all students during their training in the companies and received an overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and companies alike.

Looking at the second year students companies unanimously stated that they could build on last year’s training. While last year a significant part of the practical phase was dedicated to integrate students into the work environment, introducing them to basic work ethics, learning how to communicate in a professional setting and understanding basic business, this year students could be integrated in working procedures. Many companies stated that they have already handed over small tasks to the students and in one case, the student even was able to compensate for an absent colleague.

Without exception, all partner companies have noted that they saw notable development in the students, both on a personal and professional level.

For the three new groups also some new company partners have joined the program. Their first experience with the program was under difficult circumstances, as in some companies the training started, while work still was carried out from home. Integrating a first year student in the work process whereas everybody is working from home was for sure a very challenging undertaking. GJU highly appreciates the commitment of its partners to the program and the students and with how much seriousness and enthusiasm they perceived the training of the dual students. “This year, we've partnered with the German Jordanian University for the Dual Studies Program where we've chosen four interns who have proven to be hardworking, committed, and thirsty to continually learn and gain knowledge. This is an excellent program for students as it aims to integrate the theoretical knowledge they have within their roles at the workspace.” said Rula Alnabelsi Senior Associate, Learning and Development at Bank al Etihad, one of the new partners this year.

At the same time, also GJU students impress by their dedication to the program. This year’s practical phase was extremely challenging, as GJU could not integrate regular dual study courses during training. Most of the students were obliged to follow courses after working hours in the evening, which meant a considerable amount of extra work for many of them. Nevertheless, the following statement from a dual student represents the feedback from most students when asked about their experience: “Many of my colleagues are jealous because they could not join the dual studies track, I gained so much experience which I never expected to have after only one study year.” Another student stated, “Seeing how the theory I learn in University is implemented in the company, will make my academic studies much easier.”

Dual Studies is a unique program at GJU that combines theoretical studies with practical experiences from the first year of studies and is implemented in close collaboration with industrial partners. Until now, 28 partner companies are participating in the program:

Amin Kawaar & Sons, Aqaba Logistics Village, Aramex, Bank al Etihad, City Shipping, CMA CGM, Dar Al Hai, DHL, Estarta, Fine Holding, Gargour Shipping Company, GIZ, Ikea, Intrasoft, Jordan Insurance Company, Maani, Maersk, Maltrans, Masafat, MBC, Pacific International Lines, Naouri Group, Petra Drugstore, RAMZ for Specialized Transport, Tikiyet Um Ali, Toyota, Umniah and Zain.
