On Tuesday 13th of March 2018, the Office for Industrial Link (OIL) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), organized a visit for Siemens AG delegation (from Germany and the region) to meet with GJU President Prof. Manar Fayyad and School’s Deans to explore and discuss ways of future collaboration. Within the visit Mrs. Janina Kugel, Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG Germany, presented a lecture on “Skills of the future: how digitalization effects employability and leadership”.

Kugel presented an overview on the evolution of technology saying that nowadays an offline life seems impossible indicating that 2 billion personal computers are in use, 270 billion emails sent each day and 250 minutes consumed online daily.

She gave an introduction about Siemens history and fields of business mentioning that Siemens is one of the leading digital companies in the world with 20% revenue growth from digital business and 24.500 software engineers.

She explained to the audience how digitalization and new technology are changing the ways of work and the expectations from employers.

She pointed out to the new skills required for all jobs on all levels specifying the top five skills in 2020, which include Complex Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Creativity, People Management and Coordinating with Others.

Students and staff members of GJU who attended the lecture were engaged in a lively discussion with Mrs. Kugel about new technologies and their impact on a changing job market.

The delegation, which included also the CEOs of Siemens Middle East and Levant & Libya branch as well as local representatives, had then the opportunity to visit GJU’s Innovation Space where they were introduced to student projects implemented by GJU’s Robotics Club and the concept of the Innovation Lab to support entrepreneurship at GJU.
