Under the patronage of H.E Mrs. Khawala Armouti, Minister of Social Development, The German Jordanian University in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt and DAAD organized a conference about the Social Work entitled “Social Work in the Context of the Arab Refugee Crisis Conference “on Monday 26th of September 2016. 

The President of GJU Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid emphasized the importance of this conference where all sides concerned to acknowledge its responsibilities towards humanity and refugees. He further highlighted the  GJU‘s efforts to help Syrian Refugees in term of education, mentioning the different initiatives that are supported by GJU to educate the Syrian Refugees and most importantly the  project that was launched by the EU for educating Syrian Refugees in Jordanian Education Institutions that was also hosted by GJU.

Speaking to the audience, the President pointed out that this conference is a platform to share expertise and thoughts with partners while focusing on the new established Professional Diploma in Migration and Refugees in GJU as a step forward by the university to support and help the Syrian Refugees.

H.E Brigitta Siefker-Ebelre, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, expressed a pleasure to attend and participate in this conference, and asserted that the subject of social work under the roof of the School of Applied Humanities and Languages is an important step forward in developing the field of Social Sciences at the GJU.

For his part H.E Mr. Omar Hamzeh the representative of the Minister of Social Development, reminded the audience in this context of His Majesty King Abdullah remarks that he made at the Leaders’ Summit on Refugees, that was co-hosted by the US, where His Majesty underlined some important points related to the refugee burden, and  the facts about Jordan’s response to the refugee crisis and its impact on the country.   

H.E Dr. Ralf Roßkopf, the Vice President of UAS Würzburg-Schweinfurt stated that the university was honored to co-organize this conference, saying that this professional diploma “Migration and Refugees” is a statement that the GJU is willing to address one of the most existential challenge to both, the Jordan and the German society.

Furthermore, the conference included several sessions that were addressing mainly the overall situations in Germany and in Jordan regards the social work, migration and refugees throughout a clarification by representatives from our partners, UAS Würzburg-Schweinfurt, as well as GJU and other organizations like UNHCR, Jordan River Foundation and UNICEF.
