Shereen Amarin, an Architecture graduate from the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), was awarded the second prize in the Haifa Award international program for her graduation project, “A story of a river |Al-Maghtas” supervised by Arch. Tha’er Qub'a.

Amarin’s project is an Interpretation center - development of the Baptism site. The site is in one of the most spiritual places in the world, it is one of the world heritage sites and it holds great religious, historical, and archaeological values.

However, it is abandoned and neglected, all its functions and attractions are lost, due to the lack of frequent users. The aim is to create a crossing point between the two banks of the Jordan river that would introduce the needed frequent users.

The design started by creating two journeys: the pedestrian pilgrimage route (slow route) and the traveler’s route (fast route) to cross.

The main intervention of the project is the interpretation center that is working as a crossing border, letting the people of Palestine access the west bank after the liberation of their land.

The “Graduation” prize is the second annual prize in the Haifa Award international program. It aims to celebrate higher education students and recent graduates whose final graduation projects successfully address the needs, the future, and the aspirations of Palestinian societies, cities, and villages worldwide.

The Prize is dedicated to advancing original architectural graduation research or concepts that respond to local challenges and have the potential to make a significant impact on the cities and the villages.

Congratulations Shereen, GJU wishes you every success and a bright future!
