Under the patronage of Acting President of German Jordanian University, Prof. Manar Fayyad,  the university hosted His Excellency the Lower House Speaker Engineer Atef Tarawneh on Monday 14th of August 2017, to deliver a lecture entitled” The Achievements of House of Representatives in Legislative Reform.”

At the beginning of the lecture, Eng. Tarawneh highlighted the importance of the House of Representatives considering that it’s elected by people directly within a political process that guarantees the right of their participation in making decisions.

He explained the improvements in processing the laws and how the current and previous house witnessed the endorsement of some legislative reforms politically, economically and development of justice.

He mentioned that - during the first regular session - the number of parliamentary questions reached 565 while the government answered 278  in the meanwhile representatives continued the hard work through suggestions for bills, discussion requests, petitions and complaints.

Eng. Tarawneh also pointed the house’s role diplomatically and its reputation as a democratic institution that represents its own people, and pressure governments in the region and the world to do its role in crises.

 

At the end of the lecture a wide discussion was conducted and managed by National Education Instructor Mr. Adel Hawatmeh, where the students' and staff’s questions were answered.
