Amman - August, 2014

Due to today's new technologies and according to the directives of the German Jordanian University President, Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, theCenter of Information Systems and Technology at GJU cut back significantly on some obstacles and maintained the positives by using new and advanced video conferencing solutions.

Dr. Feras Al-Hawari, Director of the Center of Information Systems and Technology said that the center was promoting the video conference system at GJU, and now started to apply the system by processing five meeting-rooms at the university.

He also elaborated that by carefully controlling factors like room layout and lighting including technologies like high definition cameras (HD) and high quality audio, all participants wherever they are in the world - feel like they are together in the same location carrying on a face-to-face conversation. Noting that using video conferencing is important in situations where the time and cost of travel are impractical.

Dr. Al-Hawari emphasized that the system allows individuals or groups in different locations to see and hear each other. Students in a video call may also be able to show videos or presentation slides with each other to work together on documents or projects.

The main goals that GJU is looking to achieve through applying the system are very promising in future. This can help any guest lectures from external speakers, who are unable to come to the campus, supporting group work or discussion between students at different institutions, meetings with placement students who are working away from the campus, and building a community of learners especially for part-time or work-based students.

It is worth mentioning that the technical team who was working on the system led by Eng. Mohammad Ennab (Network Engineer), included Eng. Ali Sariera (Network Engineer), Mr. Tamer Hyasat (Technical Support), as well as Mr. Hadi Etawi (Technical Support).
