On Wednesday 2nd of May 2018, The Office for Industrial Links (OIL) at German Jordanian University (GJU), organized a workshop on “Dual Study BSc Program in Logistics”.
President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad and Vice President Prof. Dorit Schumann, attended the workshop, besides GIZ Coordinator of MOVEHET program Mr. Mohammad Badran, the Dean of School of Management and Logistics Sciences (SMLS) Dr. Malek Alsharairi and number of companies and organizations in Jordan.
Fayyad said that Dual programs are new and innovative for Jordan where theory and practice are connected in a meaningful way, stressing GJU’s mission in providing the Jordanian labor market with well-educated graduates, who add real value to companies and institutions.
She specified that the main aim is to develop a new model for applied education, corresponding to the demands of the labor market indicating to the constant and rapid changes in market and employer’s needs.
Dual Studies Advisor at GJU Randolph Galla conducted a presentation explaining Dual Studies for Jordan and at GJU, Benefits and Challenges, Structure and content, Company Involvement and GIZ Support.
Last year SMLS initiated a Dual Pilot Module in logistics with Aqapa Logistics Village (ALV) consisted of two phases, to provide GJU’s students with knowledge and practical skills in the logistics and supply chain management fields, logistics activities in business world, in addition to using the theoretical knowledge obtained by the university in a practical context applied in a specialized logistics service provider.
GJU students Saja Badran and Aseel Abdulghani spoke about the ALV Dual Study experience saying that it helped them to realize how the real world operates besides assisting them in comprehending and relating to their study.
From the company’s perspective, General Manager of ALV Hakam Abufeilat said that the experience was very fruitful and successful praising GJU’s commitment and cooperation towards the program.
Head of Component, GIZ Jordan Wolfgang Frohberg and Galla presented the benefits of participation in GJU’s Logistics Dual Study program, such as involvement in curriculum development, solutions for company challenges and reputation as innovative company.
At the end, participants discussed next steps to finalizing and activating the program.
