Amman – 26 February 2017

With the cooperation of Magdeburg University and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Jordanian University (GJU) held an International workshop in field training in social work for migrants and refugees.

This workshop is considered as one of the university’s initiatives to support the development of a master program in social work, represented by the social work department in the School of Applied Humanities and Languages , this workshop is considered as an introduction to other specializations such as Clinical Social Work, Social Work with Children, Youth and Families, that will be developed in the future.

The workshop that lasted for two days, aims to share the needs and the management of field training as part of the study programs in Germany and Jordan and to be well informed by the institutions working with the refugees regarding their needs and expectations from this partnership.

GJU hosted a number of German and Jordanian universities such as Al Yarmouk, University of Jordan, and Al-Balqa' Applied University, along with representatives of local NGOs and official institutions such as Jordan River Foundation, Caritas Jordan and Care Jordan, who presented their experience in the training field and their scheme of work to build a well-structured cooperation model as it’s an integral element of the GJU MA- degree concept.

A second objective to the workshop is to establish research initiatives in the field consequently, representatives of Nour Hussain Foundation, UNICEF, UNHCR, Caritas, GIZ, and Wurzburg University shared their perspectives of international research collaboration for social work.

At the end of the workshop some of the graduates from the first professional diploma in social work for migrant and refugees -that was completed in February- shared their feedback during their participation in the program.
