On Wednesday 18th of May 2017, The School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management at German Jordanian University (GJU), organized a workshop on “Landfill Leachate Treatment Technologies”, presented by Dr. Kristina Baziene from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in Lithuania.

At the beginning Dr. Kristina explained that Leachate is mostly organically contaminated liquid and contains all sorts of unusual soundings and highly toxic substances, explaining the importance of waste management and the systems followed in European Union countries and her country Lithuania.

 

She also presented Leachate generation and composition, saying that the age of Leachate is very important to determine the riskiness of it on environment.

At the end of the workshop she clarified all technologies used now in treating Leachate, advantages and disadvantages of every method, and the benefits of Leachate management in eliminating environmental impact, and satisfying regulatory norms for Leachate discharge.
