Amman- 1 April 2018

On the 20th and 21st of March 2018, the Office for Industrial Links (OIL) in cooperation with the Consultation and Training Centre (CTC) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), organized a Human Resources workshop for GJU’s staff members. The workshop was entitled “Designing the future as a team” and conducted by Prof. Dr. Bernt Mayer from the East Bavarian Technical University of Applied Sciences in Amberg-Weiden, Germany.

It was implemented in the scope of the Flying Faculty Program at GJU and under the umbrella of the Career Service activities of the OIL.

Twenty two staff members participated in the training, which covered various topics such as introduction to the “DISC personality models”, situational leadership, as well as recruitment and interviewing methods.

All of these scientific approaches have been practically applied in the workshop, via either simulations or practical exercises, also referring to real life scenarios due to Prof. Mayer’s longstanding experiences with industrial partners.

Prof. Mayer who is visiting GJU and Jordan for the second time, said that his experience with GJU’s staff during his stay was exceptional, emphasizing that the workshop provides the staff members with some essential skills in team development and leadership, so they know how to identify and manage their teams according to given circumstances.

Participants mentioned that the course will definitely contribute towards everyone’s self-awareness, observation and leadership skills, considering that these methods are the state of the art approaches of modern HR and team practices.

Dr. Abdallah Abdallah, Director of CTC handed over the certificates to the participants at the end of the workshop and appreciated Prof. Mayer’s engagement in this special workshop.

The Flying Faculty program was established at GJU to enhance the exchange of expertise between the university and its German partner universities. In addition to the workshop, Prof. Mayer taught special courses to students in the Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior classes at the School of Management and Logistics Sciences. Such courses add important value and expertise to the regular curriculum offered by the faculties and exposes the students to international approaches from Germany.
