On Wednesday 14th of March 2018, Mr. Ghassan Nuqul, Vice Chairman of Nuqul Group visited GJU to give a lecture entitled “Matching Skills and Qualifications with Labor Market Needs”.

The event took place in the frame of the “Inspirational Speakers’ Series”, under the umbrella of the Jordan Strategy Forum and in cooperation with the Office for Industrial Links (OIL) and the Industrial Relations Committee (IRC) at German Jordanian University (GJU).

Mr. Nuqul pointed out the importance of non-academic skills such as Communication skills, Social responsibility, Emotional intelligence, Adaptability and Discipline adding that a study shows that after 10 years 50% of jobs will be in areas we don’t know today which requires a necessity to adapt and develop in a practical and calculated pace.

He drew attention to eight technologies playing a key role though 2025 that will impact all major areas of the value chain: Internet of Things, Autonomous Vehicles /Drones, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Robotics, Digital Traceability, 3D Printing, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality and Blockchain.

The students and staff members were then involved with Mr. Ghassan in a productive and inspirational debate in which they discussed the importance of bridging the gap between university and labor market requirements, qualifications and skills required for the new graduates, the importance of leadership and creativity, and adaptation of game-changing technologies.

Mr. Ghassan concluded his talk by saying, “The harder you work the luckier you get – but the only way to succeed is to pursue what you like most”!
