On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, under the patronage of Prime Minister, Dr. Omar Al- Razzaz, the German Jordanian University (GJU) launched GJU Start-Up event in the presence of the Prime Minister's delegate, Minister of Digital Economy & Entrepreneurship Eng. Mothanna Gharaibeh, the President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad, faculty members, and students.

In her speech, Fayyad explained that the ceremony is an interpretation of the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein and Crown Prince Al Hussein Ibn Abdullah in supporting youth initiatives and entrepreneurial projects that contribute to the development of society, indicating to the University's motto for this year; "Innovation and Entrepreneurship".

She added that GJU worked through its distinctive programs and the collaboration with Germany to create excellence and leadership in the Jordanian society. In addition to its contribution to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship and enhance the role of youth in building the Jordanian economy.

Under the supervision of GJU Program Innovation & Entrepreneurship (GJU PIE), three students developed startup projects in the areas of media, social networking, and e-commerce.

Industrial Engineering student Ma’en Zaid presented his project Mosaic, an online video platform; it provides coverage for breaking news and trending topics through short-recorded videos.

International Accounting student Nadeem Ifraihat presented Laqta, an online thrift shop that gives the user access to many various types of clothing items on a large-scale level. The users will have the opportunity to purchase and sell high-quality clothing at the lowest prices.

Finally, Ra’ed Abdullah, a student in Computer Engineering presented TopicTalk: a social platform where users can chat with each other under a specific topic. Users can open topics and other users can join the conversation

It is worth mentioning that PIE was established in 2013 at GJU’s Office for Industrial Links to develop a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs, commercialize research results to new products or businesses, create private sector-university links (locally and globally) and new job opportunities, establish linkages with local and global entrepreneurship, and innovation support organizations.
