The School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT) at the German Jordanian University organized an intensive technical workshop titled “Introduction to MongoDB and Spark” between March 27 to April 2nd, 2023. The workshop was taught by Prof. Dr. Veit Schenk, a flying faculty professor from Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW).

The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of Mongo Data Base, covering essential operations for Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) operations. Additionally, participants gained insight into the powerful data processing capabilities of MongoDB using pipelines. The workshop emphasized the practical applications of MongoDB in real-world scenarios.

In the second part, the course delved into the fundamentals of Spark, an open-source distributed computing system, highlighting its capabilities in processing large-scale datasets. Participants were introduced to Spark's core concepts and their role in enabling efficient data processing and analysis.

The workshop comprised both theoretical sessions and hands-on lab exercises. The practical component focused on applying MongoDB for various data management tasks and leveraging pipelines for complex data transformations. Participants also gained valuable experience in harnessing the potential of Spark for distributed data processing using the classic word count example.

After the end of the workshop, the students who attended all workshop sessions and finished the workshop exercises received certificates of attendance signed by Prof. Dr. Schenk.
