Amman- April,  2015

The School of Architecture and Built Environment in cooperation with the Faculty of Spatial Planning at the TU-Dortmund in Germany have succeeded in the realization of a DAAD funded project with a budget of around 70,000 EUR for the year 2015. The project will undergo multi-dimensional levels of activities including research, exchange and student based projects. The DAAD support was secured by the great efforts of Dr. Maram Tawil (GJU) and our partners at TU Dortmund.

The project is accepted by the DAAD with Prof. Christa Reicher from TU Dortmund as the Director of the project, Dr. Mais Al Jafari as the coordinator from TU Dortmund and Dr. Maram Tawil as the coordinator from the GJU. Research Team involves Dr. Katrin Baeumer and Prof. Christoph Zoepel from TU Dortmund, Prof. Mohammad Yaghan, Dr. Janset Shawash and Dr. Fida Salah from GJU. It will also involve academic staff members and MSc Students from the GJU along with exchange of students to develop the milestones planned in the project.

This joint activity project strives for producing development outcomes on the different levels; first, on the educational level, where it will promote the quality of education through the intercultural dialogue between the different partners based on joint students’ projects elaborated and surveyed by all groups of students from the two countries through exchange. Thus, this will be resulting in acquainting students with multicultural arenas and environments that endorse their future visions and careers. Second, on the community development level, where the project intends and strives for providing the two cities and the concerned governmental organizations with practical and tangible strategies and action plans that stand for reclaiming the public space for the community and therewith, more socially inclusive communities and sustainable development approaches.

The project has started with a kick off meeting in Dortmund on the 30th and 31st of March to organize and structure the activities in the year 2015 that will incorporate a summer school in Dortmund, research stays for staff and PhD-MSc students and a student workshop in Amman.
