A workshop of the DAAD project "Introducing Data Literacy at the German Jordanian University" (IDL@GJU) has be held at EAH Jena from 27 to 30.9.2021. The project is funded by the DAAD from 2021 to 2022 (German-Arab Transformation Partnership) and coordinated by the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.

Participants of the workshop come from the German Jordanian University (GJU) Amman, the Brandenburg University of Technology, the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena.

Data literacy refers to basic competencies for the critical use of data. This includes all activities from the collection of data, its storage and processing to the use of insights gained from the data. Data Literacy competencies are relevant to students in all disciplines. "Data literacy enhances judgment, self-determination, and a sense of responsibility, and promotes the social and economic participation of all of us in a world shaped by digitization." During the workshop, activities related to data literacy at the individual universities has been discussed and a questionnaire on data literacy competencies of first-year students will be designed. Subsequently, data literacy competencies will be recorded and evaluated at all partner universities.

Prior to the workshop, the German Vice President for International Affairs of the GJU, Prof. Dr. Ralf Roßkopf, met with the Rector of the EAH Jena, Prof. Dr. Steffen Teichert, as well as members of the International Office and various departments to further strengthen the relationship between the GJU and the EAH Jena.

It is worth mentioning that the GJU delegation consisted of Prof. Ralf Roßkopf, Ms. Jacqueline Rogler, Dr. Abdullah Alfarrarjeh, Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair, Dr. Amani Abu Jabal and Dr. Mustafa Shawaqfeh.
