An online workshop of the DAAD project "Bringing Data Literacy to Jordan" (BDL2JO) was held on June 15, 2023. The project is funded by the DAAD from April to December 2023 (Ta'ziz Short-Term Measures 2023) and coordinated by the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena (EAH Jena).

The workshop was attended by several academics from five German universities (namely, Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, Brandenburg University of Technology, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Fulda University of Applied Sciences, and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences) and seven Jordanian universities (namely, German Jordanian University (GJU), University of Jordan (UJ), Yarmouk University (YU), Hashemite University (HU), Tafila Technical University (TTU), Princess Sumaya University of Science and Technology (PSUT))—furthermore, Eng. Yara Al-Rahahleh, a GJU graduate working at PwC Middle East, participated in the workshop.

During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Christina Class, the project manager, introduced data literacy and its competencies. Also, she explained various suggested examples for injecting data literacy competencies in the curriculum of several courses. In the end, Prof. Dr. Christine Buchholz presented a data literacy-focused project named "DAViD", developed by Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. Also, Dr. Volker Schwartze presented another project named "DaLiJe", developed by the Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) of Jena.

Data literacy refers to basic competencies for the critical use of data. This includes all activities from the collection of data, its storage and processing, to the use of insights gained from the data. Data Literacy competencies are relevant to students in all disciplines. "Data literacy enhances judgment, self-determination, and a sense of responsibility, and promotes the social and economic participation of all of us in a world shaped by digitization." (Data Literacy Charter, 2021, https://www.stifterverband.org/charta-data-literacy).

It is worth mentioning that the GJU team involved in this project consisted of Dr. Abdullah Alfarrarjeh, Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair, Dr. Amani Abu Jabal, and Dr. Mustafa Shawaqfeh.
