The German Jordanian University and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), marking the unique partnership to foster their scholarship programs EDU-SYRIA and DAFI.

The memorandum signed by Prof. Ala’a Aldeen Al-Halhouli and the UNHCR's representative to Jordan, Mr. Dominik Bartsch and, with the presence of representatives from the European Union Delegation to Jordan, Ms. Mary Horvers and Ms. Wieke Waterschoot stated that the aim of this partnership is to fortify access to refugees to higher education, develop their skills, maximize the number of scholarships provided, as well as addressing the barriers facing the refugees.

Al-Halhouli also pointed out that this agreement is instrumental in breaking down barriers to access higher education for refugees and demonstrates the commitment to empowering refugee students with the necessary support to help reveal their potential and provide them with an exceptional education.

The UNHCR representative Mr. Dominik Bartsch added: “education is the beacon of hope for a brighter future. This partnership between UNHCR and the German Jordanian University reaffirms our commitment to providing refugees in Jordan with access to higher education, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to shape their own destinies”
