The German Jordanian University (GJU), partner of the ENI CBC Med funded ‘ESMES’ project launched a contest on energy efficiency among 9 public schools in Jordan in 2022.

The main objective of this contest was to raise awareness in the educational sector of the importance of assuming sustainable energy behaviors. The main target of this contest was to prepare students energy teams form the schools to motivate them to adapt energy saving behavior among the school students and local communities. The 10th schools for girls in Aqaba won the contest, with their proposal that included applicability of energy saving solutions, and school’s need analysis. The school was awarded a 60,000 Euros subcontract.

On the 26nd of December 2022, the German Jordanian University (GJU) ESMES team visited the 10th School for girls in Aqaba to inspect and receive works from for the subcontract awarded to the school. The tender commissioning and hand over committee included the ministry of education, audit bureau and the GJU project team.

Contract included the installation of LED lighting in the hallways, laboratories and classrooms, installation of high efficiency inverter-based AC units, and the maintenance and up keep of the older AC units in use.
